Chargebacks and disputes
How chargebacks work for adult creators, why they are more common in this industry, and how to keep your dispute rate low enough to stay in business.

What a chargeback actually is
A chargeback happens when a buyer asks their bank or card issuer to reverse a payment instead of asking you for a refund. The bank takes the money back from the processor, the processor takes it from you, and most processors add a fee on top, commonly $15 to $25 per case.
Adult content has a higher chargeback rate than most industries for a predictable reason: regret and secrecy. A fan's partner sees a statement, or the fan decides they wish they had not spent the money, and "I don't recognise this charge" is easier than an honest conversation. Card networks know this, which is one reason mainstream processors avoid adult businesses entirely.
Processors track your dispute ratio. Cross their threshold, often around 1 percent of transactions, and you can be fined, put on a monitoring program, or dropped. Keeping disputes rare matters more than winning any single one.
How to prevent them
- Make the descriptor recognisable. If your processor lets you set the name that appears on card statements, use something neutral that the fan will still remember.
- Deliver promptly and keep proof. Screenshots of delivery, timestamps, and the message thread agreeing the price.
- Refund quickly when asked. A fast refund costs you the sale; a chargeback costs the sale, the fee, and a mark against your ratio.
- Be clear about what is included before money moves. Most disputes start as a mismatch of expectations.
- Avoid very large single transactions from new fans. Several smaller payments spread the risk.
- Watch for fraud signals: a brand-new account, a huge first purchase, pressure to deliver immediately, odd questions about your payment setup.
When a dispute arrives
You usually have a short window, often 7 to 10 days, to respond with evidence. Send what you have: the agreement, delivery proof, your terms, and any messages. Keep it factual and brief.
Realistically, adult creators lose many disputes even with good evidence, because the buyer's bank decides. Treat the response as worth doing but not worth losing sleep over, and put your energy into prevention.
After a dispute, block the fan everywhere. Someone who has charged back once will do it again.
Where credits fit
When a fan pays you in VestaCreate credits, the card transaction was between the fan and VestaCreate when they bought the pack, not between the fan and your processor. Your cash-out comes after a 7-day hold. For the sales you route through credits, that keeps card disputes off your own merchant account, which is one reason many creators use credits for small, impulsive purchases where disputes are most common.
