Why live matters

A live stream is the closest a fan gets to you without being in the room. It is unedited, it is now, and they can talk to you and be answered. For fans who pay for attention and access, which is most of the fans who pay at all, that is the whole product in its purest form.

Streams also drive tipping in a way that posts do not. The public, immediate thank-you a tip earns on a live stream is what cam culture was built on, and it works on a subscription page too.

VestaCreate supports live streams for creators. Before your first one, read the current terms for anything specific to what can be streamed.

Preparation

  • Announce it a day or two ahead, with a time in your fans' most common time zone, and remind people an hour before.
  • Check your lighting, your angle and your sound. Bad audio ends streams faster than bad video.
  • Check your frame for anything that identifies your location: windows, mail, street sounds, reflections. See the identity article.
  • Decide a rough plan: an opening, something that happens in the middle, a goal, an ending. Streams with no shape run out of energy in twenty minutes.
  • Have your tip menu ready, with a set of stream-specific items and amounts.
  • Set a goal with a clear outcome when it is reached, and say it out loud at the start.

Running the stream

  • Greet people by name as they arrive. It costs nothing and it is the reason they stay.
  • Acknowledge every tip, immediately and by name. This is the engine of a tipping stream.
  • Keep talking. Silence feels like the stream has stalled.
  • Steer toward the goal and say how far along it is.
  • If anyone is abusive, block them without discussion. Blocking and reporting work during a stream like anywhere else.
  • Decide your end time in advance and stick to it. Leaving a little early with energy left is better than fading out.

A first stream of 45 to 60 minutes is plenty. Longer streams are for when you have a crowd that stays.

After

  • Thank your tippers privately, within the day.
  • Post a clip or a few stills as a public teaser for people who missed it, and as a subscriber-only post for those who want more.
  • Note what worked: which times, which goals, which menu items. Streams improve fastest when you keep a short log.
  • If you recorded it, consider releasing it as a pay-per-view post or a clip on your VestaVids store. One hour live can become several items for sale.

Weekly is a good rhythm once you have found your audience. Same day, same time, so it becomes a habit for them. A stream nobody expected gets a fraction of the audience a regular one does.
