Discounts and promotions

How to run discounts and promotions as an adult creator without training fans to wait for sales: timing, types, and limits.

The one rule

A promotion should get you something you did not already have: new fans, a dormant fan reactivated, a product moved that was not selling. A discount handed to fans who were about to pay full price is simply a pay cut.

If you are always on sale, you have no sale. You have a lower price with extra steps, and fans learn to wait.

Promotions that work

  • New-subscriber offers. A reduced first month, aimed at followers who have not yet converted. Fans who were already going to pay full price mostly already have.
  • Time-limited. 48 to 72 hours with a hard end. The deadline does the work; a week-long sale is a price cut.
  • Tied to an occasion. Your birthday, a holiday, a milestone, a collaboration drop. The occasion signals that this is not the new normal.
  • Reactivation offers. A message to fans who unsubscribed with a specific reason to come back. One message, not a campaign.
  • Bundles. Several items together for less than their total, which sells more units without discounting any single one. Your VestaVids store supports these directly.
  • Rewards for your best fans. A free unlock or an early look for people who have tipped or bought a custom. This is not a discount; it is recognition, and it costs you nothing.

Promotions that backfire

  • Permanent "sales" or a struck-through price that is never actually charged. Fans see through it quickly, and consumer rules in many countries restrict fake reference prices.
  • Deep discounts on subscriptions. A $2 first month brings in people who leave at $12.
  • Discounting customs. A custom is personal labour; the price is the price.
  • Announcing every promotion with urgency language. If every post is urgent, none is.

Something like one promotion a quarter, plus a new-subscriber offer that is always available, is about as often as most pages can run sales without hurting full-price demand. Watch what happens to full-price sales in the weeks after a promotion; if they dip, you ran it too deep or too long.

Running one on VestaCreate

Announce it in a public post so free followers see it, mention it on your socials with your share link, and post a reminder on the last day. If you are selling clips, your VestaVids store supports sales and bundles. Keep a note of what you ran, when, and what it brought in. After three or four, you will know which promotions your audience responds to and can stop guessing.

The quiet truth is that a good promotion is mostly a good excuse to talk to people. The discount is the headline; the conversation is the sale.
